New Publication: How Can We Actually Halt Land Degradation and Biodiversity Loss?

As we move closer to the 2030 deadline for the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, the urgency surrounding SDG 15 (Life on Land) has never been clearer. Protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems isn't just an environmental imperative; it is essential for our collective survival. But beyond the high-level goals, a critical question remains: How exactly are we measuring our progress, and what concrete pathways will get us there?

I am thrilled to announce that my latest research paper tackling this exact challenge is now published and available to read.

Quantifying Progress toward SDG 15: Empirical Pathways to Halt Land Degradation and Biodiversity Loss

Published in the Social Science Research Network (SSRN - Elsevier) | ISSN 1556-5068

In this paper, I move beyond the theoretical to look closely at the data. If we want to reverse the alarming trends of land degradation and the rapid loss of biodiversity, we need empirical, data-driven strategies.

What you will find in the paper:

  • Actionable Metrics: How we can more accurately quantify and track our progress (or lack thereof) toward SDG 15 targets.

  • Empirical Pathways: Evidence-based approaches and solutions that are currently showing promise in halting environmental degradation.

  • Policy Implications: What these numbers mean for decision-makers, conservationists, and global stakeholders trying to turn commitments into on-the-ground reality.

Whether you are an academic researcher, a policy-maker, a conservation practitioner, or simply someone deeply invested in the future of our planet's ecosystems, I believe this research offers valuable insights into where we stand and where we need to go.

I invite you to read the full paper, and I would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and questions.
